Our Solution for Fleet Compliance with City Regulations

Shared mobility providers face the challenge of complying with various regulations, including those specific to the cities in which they operate. For example, one such regulation is restricted parking time in high-demand city areas and centers. This introduces an added layer of complexity on their internal operations teams, responsible for fleet management, resulting in increased costs. They must navigate regulatory requirements while ensuring optimal fleet performance efficiency.

If not handled effectively, this situation poses several risks for shared mobility providers:

  • High costs associated with covering fines for non-compliance.

  • Potential negative impact on the provider's reputation and image within the city.

Certain city regulations add even more complexity and importance to idle time-based rebalancing. In the example of Hamburg, where combustion engine cars are permitted to park for a maximum of 2 hours, as indicated by a parking disc every half hour. Hence, it is important to identify and relocate vehicles with the highest risk of exceeding the 2-hour limit.

What is Idle Time Rebalancing?

Idle time rebalancing allows the possibility to move vehicles from any city area to other high-demand areas based on their idle time or parked duration. While classic rebalancing enables the movement of vehicles from low-demand to high-demand areas, idle time rebalancing offers more flexibility over the classic rebalancing use case.

How Can Idle Time Rebalancing Effectively Address the Problem?

The key advantage of this new feature is that it enables cars to be relocated from any city area to the other high-demand zone based on their idle time. Additionally, we can also combine factors such as specific times of the day, car models, or designated city zones. This enables us to strategically relocate cars throughout the city, while adhering to local regulations and ensuring a maintained and balanced distribution of vehicles across different areas, without disrupting the overall fleet management. With the ability to create dynamic rules, idle time rebalancing generates tasks only for vehicles at the highest risk of getting fined.
